Rudy Rush
Septembr 1-3

Harlem native Rudy “Rush” McCallum returns to his roots as the host of the long running musical/variety series “It’s Showtime at the Apollo.” The six-year comedy veteran was chosen to follow a distinguished line of former hosts whose careers soared to new heights while at the world famous Apollo Theatre, including Sinbad, Mark Curry, And Steve Harvey.
Born Rudy McCallum in Harlem, New York, and raised in Charleston, South Carolina he earned the nickname “Rush” on the basketball court, but found his calling making people laugh. Record-breaking attendance at the New York Comedy Club, along with numerous appearances on Bet’s Comic View, Apollo Comedy hour, and HBO’s Def Comedy Jam were proof of his comedic talent.
His “inner city” edge and “southern” presentation have landed him commercial spots for Champion Sportswear, ESPN, and 7-Up. He also joined the Nike Fun Police, where Rudy along with other comedians and local basketball legends played games with teen and peewee teams to increase awareness and support for summer basketball leagues.
For the past two years Rudy has served as a warm up act for It’s Showtime at the Apollo and as part as the McDonald’s Presents It’s Showtime at the Apollo Kids’ Talent search. As host of the 12-city tour for the past three years, Rudy helped to seek out the country’s brightest and talented kids.
This is Rudy’s first full season on It’s Showtime at the Apollo, and his schedule remains busier then ever. He is currently completing a nationwide college tour and beginning the Def Comedy Jam Tour, which includes 13 cities. Then it’s right back to the Apollo Theatre, where it’s Showtime at the Apollo will begin it’s 15th broadcast season this fall.
“Rudy Rush is the best host and the only host we’ve had for the McDonald’s Presents It’s Showtime at the Apollo Kid’s Talent Search,” comments Chuck Sutton, Executive Producer. “No matter how old you are or where you’re from Rudy’s humor is universal. The kids and the Audience just love him!”
